October 13: Sharon Presley will be giving two presentations in San Diego next week at the Libertopia conference. One of the presentations is a critical thinking workshop on Saturday at 4pm. She will also speak at UC San Diego Thursday Oct 20 at 8pm on "Standing Up to Experts and Authorities."
July 23: Two new links have been added to the Authority Links page. One is a discussion of Milgram and La Boetie by libertarian writer Jeff Riggenbach. Click here. La Boetie was a 16th century writer who wrote a famous essay questioning obedience to authority titled A Discourse on Voluntary Servitude. March 31: RIT Advisory Council member Paula Caplan has a new blog at Psychology Today. Whether you agree with her or not, she makes you think. Caplan's book "You're Smarter Than They Make Feel: How the Experts Intimidate Us and What We Can Do About It" was a major inspiration for Dr. Presley's book, Standing Up to Experts and Authorties. October 12: Two new essays have been added to the Critical Thinking about Authority section: "The Present and Future of Obedience to Authority (updated research since the Milgram experiment) and "Not Everyone Obeys: Personal Correlates of Resistance to Authority," both by Dr. Presley. Click here.

September 16: RIT gets a new look and new organization for its materials. There will be new material to come soon; the first new piece is a review of The Mathematics of Sex. This is by far the best and most thorough examination of the research on gender comparisions of math ability.

May 30: If you want to think for yourself, you have to know who you are. Who is the self- separate and different from all other selves? You need to know what you believe and why before you can know whether you’re thinking for yourself or simply parroting what others have told you, whether you’re acting on the basis of your own beliefs and values, or simply going along with the way you’ve been told to behave by your parents, your friends or your culture.
